Fun Time Ponies is a family-run business specializing in the hire of mechanised Pony Cycles, as well as ride-on ponies and other animals for parties and events. Our offerings are a source of joy for all ages, from toddlers to pensioners, if you can stand up and sit down, you can ride!
Founded in 2017, Fun Time Ponies began after a family vacation to Hawaii, where we first discovered Pony Cycles and were inspired to bring the fun back home. That summer, we launched our business at Promenade Park in Maldon, Essex.
Our rides are environmentally friendly, requiring no electricity or fossil fuels. We provide a unique entertainment experience that brings families together, offering a fun way to exercise without even realizing it, contributing to the health and well-being of everyone who participates.
After three successful seasons at Promenade Park, our business continued to thrive by participating in a variety of events, including birthday parties, school fetes, town celebrations, and even a Christmas grotto in a city-center shopping mall, until the Covid-19 pandemic interrupted.

- Zero Carbon Footprint for activity
Our ponies are operated by the sole action of the rider performing a rising trot motion (like a real jockey). There is no use of fuel or any form of electricity to operate the ponies.
- Fitness benefits
There are many fitness benefits to be had from riding our ponies. We pride our activity on providing people of all ages with a fun way to exercise. Legs, Arms and Body Core are all given a workout because the ponies act like a cross trainer. People of all ages and abilities are able to ride. Many nervous children and adults are happy to ride and benefit from joining in our activity. People with minor to moderate disabilities are also encouraged to take park and we offer support to those who need it. Parents are encouraged to participate in activity with younger children and whole families can ride together.
- Family friendly activity
Our ponies offer whole families an activity to do together. Children from as young as 2 years can ride up to adult age (only restriction being 19 stones or 130Kg for adults). We have had 3 generations riding together and have many loyal families who return time and time again. To encourage family participation we offer loyalty cards which once filled offer free rides and discount for large families.
- Other benefits
There are many other benefits to be had for our younger riders. Balance ability, social skills, co-operation skills, co-ordination skills, listening skills. In order to ride our ponies, instructions are given as to direction, how to use ponies, what can and can not be done. For many of our riders this is the first experience of taking part in an outside activity.
- What we have to offer
We have 3 different sizes of ponies. 2 years to 4 years, 5 years to 8 years and 8 years to adult. Riders are allocated ponies based on the physical size and ability. Children are supervised at all times. If a child’s ability suggests a change of pony size, then the child will be offered alternative size pony.
- Low risk of accident
Our ponies are all slow moving, and it takes the efforts of the rider to make the pony move. The riding action makes the pony move forward slowly on small wheels. We offer all riders the option of a hard helmet. We request the accompanying adult of a rider that refuses to wear the helmet to sign a disclaimer prior to riding. Also unaccompanied older children under 16 years are not allowed to ride without helmet.
- Something Different
What we offer is something completely different. The majority of our riders say they have never seen anything like our event before. What they love about it is that we offer their children a fun way to exercise.
